Angel Came Down From Heaven Yesterday

one of the most beautiful and poetic editorials i've probably ever seen: the "Angel" story from Harper's Bazaar, December 1993.  shot by Peter Lindbergh and starring Amber Valletta, it had this amazing cinematic quality that goes beyond a fashion editorial.

Matt Dillon by Bruce Weber

the cover for the Arena Homme + fall/winter 2006 issue was Matt Dillon by Bruce Weber.  the actor and photographer have a long history together as subject and artist - the issue mixed up old photos of Mr. Dillon when he was just an up-and-coming actor in the early 1980s to the more recent ones of him - all taken by Mr. Weber himself.  i remember walking along the east village with my friend Sarah and we literally walked past Mr. Dillon himself (who i swear i totally clocked checking her).  i think i have this weird 'mutant' gift if you can call it that - i could literally walk into a wall or door or not know where i was at any given time yet i still have this weird-OCD-observant knack for spotting celebrities (both famed and random) at the weirdest times.  we each are born with special talents i guess ...

i did this drawing of Mr. Dillon - i remember i drew it spur of moment just to have something when i first moved into my apartment.  i hung it at the foot of my bed and it's been there ever since.  i got that quote from J.D. Salinger's Catcher in the Rye - i guess it summed up mood at the time.

Musical Intermission: Nick Gilder "Hot Child in the City"

Oh Naomi!

say what you will about Ms. Campbell but she can do no wrong to me.  it's like this article i read about her where it said that she can burn your house down and basically cause a shit storm that all but ruins your entire existence but all she has to do is flash that light beaming smile and it's like all is forgiven.  the power of a supermodel named Naomi Campbell i guess .....

my inaugural i-D magazine which had of course Ms. Campbell on the cover.  it was 1996 and i bought it during a lazy but very "fashion-friendly discovery" summer for me (when i all i did was read and re-read fashion magazines and draw endless little doodles from them).  i think i got the issue from this corner store on denman and nelson near my apartment that somehow seemed to sell all these high fashion glossies - albeit next to the porn and soap digest magazines.  just one of those covers that sticks with me forever ....

Vogue, June, 1993.  to me just a beautiful, warm, and inviting Vogue cover - the way it really should be but sadly isn't anymore ...
